** NEW PWAACS COMMITTEE INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL MEMBERS **

** LAKE 4 IS CLOSED TO ALL MEMBERS ** for fishing/walking around.

Net Dips are available at Gedges Lakes in the Disabled car park and at the bottom of the slope from the top car park leading to Lake 3.

** THE NET DIPS MUST BE USED. **

Dear Members
Further to the recent update posted today.

The committee has just been informed by one of our leased fisheries that some members are being difficult when asked to comply with equipment disinfection and using dip nets where available.

** THE NET DIPS MUST BE USED AT ALL LAKES WHERE AVAILABLE **

Members MUST ensure that if net dips are available at ANY of our leased fisheries (Hunton, Owls Castle, Claygate, Sams Lakes, Greenacres, Weirwood)
or ANY other fisheries that PWAACS Members visit, THEY MUST BE USED.

This rule has been put in place for a reason which is to help prevent the possible spread of disease and as a safeguard for not just our club but all fisheries.

To be very clear, any member not adhering to these rules will be asked to leave the associated fishery and potentially banned from that fishery, they will also have their PWACCS membership revoked without question.

Thanks
PWACCS Committee

Dear Members
As promised, we would keep you updated as and when received.

A further inspection of the lakes by CEFAS was undertaken on 9th August to monitor our stock for the presence of KHV and the clubs compliance with the conditions of the Confirmed Designations.
A visual examination of representative stocks on all the lakes was carried out by CEFAS, combined with the last recorded mortalities more than 2 weeks prior to this, we are pleased to report that CEFAS has advised that there is no evidence for the presence of any notifiable disease and that the club/lakes are also compliant with the conditions of the Confirmed Designation.

This obviously does not guarantee that we are free of infection with KHV and the notification from CEFAS is not to be used to give assurances on the health status of our stock.
The recommendation is that the club continue to maintain good biosecurity measures at our lakes, particularly concerning equipment disinfection.
These measures help not just to prevent the possible spread of disease but in the same way will also provide a measure of protection to our fish.

Note that there are a number of conditions put in place by CEFAS as part of this overall process that are compulsory however certain conditions have been now been lifted as a result of this latest update, these conditions are mainly around equipment movement around the complex.
So for example the club can now carry out any necessary work around Lake 4.

All other conditions will remain in place until we receive official written notification that the Confirmed Designation has been lifted.
This will be undertaken during October when temperatures are no longer conducive to the expression of clinical disease.

Therefore, Lake 4 continues to be closed for the rest of the year 2024 as planned and the exclusion of all members entering or walking around the Lake 4 will continue to remain in place during this period and/or until further notification by the committee.

Protect fisheries by disinfecting your angling equipment (Using biosecurity measures)

Fishery managers can only do so much to reduce the risk of disease transmission, so anglers must do all they can to safeguard the future of their sport.
Net dips are in situ as previously communicated. These are in the disabled car park and on the bottom of the slope from the top car park leading to lake 3.
These are to be used with no exception and members will also be held responsible to ensure any guests brought to the lakes follow this rule.
It is not practical to disinfect every bit of angling equipment.
Best practice is to thoroughly disinfect high risk equipment that comes into direct contact with fish or water.

This includes:
  • Landing nets.
  • Keepnets.
  • Unhooking mats.
  • Weigh slings.
  • Waders.
With all the above said, I would just like to point out that whilst this latest update is good news we are however not out of the woods yet by a long way, however what this has demonstrated is that clubs decisions and actions to close Lake 4 and take precautionary steps early and with the members support during this difficult time has been key to this latest positive update.
This is also testimony to the committee and Ken in particular in making some of these difficult but necessary precautionary steps and implementing tough decisions early on.
Appreciate that this has been quite stressful time for many.

We will continue to give updates as and when received.

Thanks
PWACCS Committee
